Fall and Winter

More geocaching

Since we didn't have power, and Jordan had downloaded several caches close by, we headed out to get out of the house (Jordan was forced) We found two out of the three. I found one in a park, Jordan found the one in the Kohl's parking lot, (he thought he had been to before, but I hadn't, I guess Gramoom took them there) anyhoo, found it again, and abandoned one because of trees and branches and stuff over the trail....we gave up easy on that one...

1,336 pieces later....

By flashlight, over the course of our 5 days of no school due to power outage....Jordan managed to finish his VW bus. It is so cool and has many cool hidden features. Amazing how detailed these are!

Doesn't that just warm a mama's heart? Boys working constructively!?!

Craaaaaziness!!!

Alrighty, trying to recoup from our big ice/snow/power outage craziness of the last week! We lost 5 days of school, were out of power for 4 days, and lost our internet/phone/cable for 7 days. Finally, I think we are all on track. I totally can live without it, but it is amazing how much I have come to quite like my heat, and internet! And home phone! Oh...and cable!

So so thankful we have a generator to keep our food cold, and our house tolerable!

Poor Poor Moosie May. She wanted to play in the snow SO BAD!!! And we could never let her off the leash because she would bolt up the hill! Don't ask me how I know this. She is very sneaky that Moosie May!

FINALLY! POWER! AND CABLE!

Just trying to catch up. We were without power for 4 days and were out of school for 5 days, and just had out internet/phone/cable restored yesterday morning, so I am trying to catch up...but for now...this is what we were dealing with. I happened to take a picture of our next door neighbors cherry tree. So gorgeous covered in a light layer of snow.

Then came the cold and ice storm. Amazingly, only a few branches were damaged while trying to hold up all this weight...the neighborhood lost a lot of trees, as well as some of our neighbors. It looks like a disaster zone.

You would have thunk....

That with two boys.....and 6 or so inches of snow...that I could get someone besides myself to shovel the driveway.....if you look close, you can see David peeking out at me from the window :-)

NOPE!

I even shoveled around David's car and all the way back to the fence so we can get the garbage/recycle out tonight for hopeful garbage tomorrow....

It was really packed down from where the cars had been driving on it since the snow began, so that was ice, and my back started to get sore...so I stopped....
The picture below looks so much better. I'd say I shoveled for 1 1/2 to 2 hours....

DesperateTimes.....

Like not having internet access at your finger tips at all times of the day or night, take desperate measures....

Sneaky Snake

How a 70 pound dog can sneak, I am not entirely sure, but it has happened twice, right in front of my eyes!!! She methodically plans her route, fakes a sniff in her toy basket, then before you know it, she has slithered where she is not supposed to be so soon after surgery!!!!!

Goood Morning! SNOW DAY!!!!!

Woke up to winter wonderland this morning! It is so pretty and still coming down.

Got a call at 4:40 am saying school was closed. Our district covers 72 miles and they go out at 4 am and warned us to go to bed, they would not be making any decisions prior to morning. But I stayed up late anyway, waiting for the evening snow that never came.... Woke up to this!

At this point (9 am) we have about 5 inches on our deck bench but it coming down steadily, not huge big flakes, but small steady ones....we'll see how much we actually get.

Sunday January 15, evening

In the evening we had a little more....just love the neighbors tree!

Sunday January 15

Morning of....not a whole lot of snow...

Poor Moosie May.....

She is back from her surgery on Friday. No bandage or anything. Amazingly very little you can see on the outside. But she limps and we want her to have a little pain, because even with the pain, she is trying to jump around. It is her first snow and she can barely contain herself that she can't go out and play. She really really really wants to!!!!! Hoping the cartilage they removed will make her discomfort go away and we can have a real dog again. One that goes for walks, etc...for now...takin it easy in our cage in the house....

Takes a lot out of a gal....

Her boy kept her company...

Scary stuff!!!!

I received the call every parent dreads (and I've heard three times....UGH!) Mom...I've been in an accident. Anthony was pulling out onto the main road from Ally's road and a navy blue sedan was driving down the street without his lights on, in the dark. Anthony literally didn't even know he was there until the point of impact. 3 street lights heading up the street in the direction the car was coming are all out so it is so dark there. Awful. Ally chipped her tooth and they are a little sore today. Not sure about the driver of the other car. He spoke Spanish and had no proof of insurance. Thankfully there was 2 witnesses. One, of which said she didn't see the car either, until they collided but couldn't tell for sure whether or not the driver had his lights on. And another who said she, in fact, did notice that his headlights were not on. So....now we have to wait and see. We had the car towed to a local transmission place recommended by AAA but they weren't open today, so the car just sits there for now. Insurance company will decide who is at fault after they get a copy of the police reports, etc...but, for now, we have the inconvenience of being down one car with a very busy teenager....with places to go and people to see....who will now be bumming rides. I am thankful no one was seriously hurt! It could have been disastrous! So now we play the insurance waiting game to determine if we will be able to get the car fixed...
