Stage 3 Leadville to Nova Guides

Beautiful morning for a run!?! 24.3 miles with a climb of 2,700 feet. First checkpoint (me) was at 7.2 miles in.

David getting his pack ready. They had to carry a jacket, hat, and gloves in case in inclement weather when they are at higher altitude.

Every day the Gourmet Cowboy catered a yummy breakfast!!!

The runners came down this path to Check point 1.

Check point 1. We took down our other table. Unfortunately, 13 runners went up the wrong trail. It is easy to do, the trail was well marked but if you keep your head down and are hiking you may miss the markers and this happened and 13 people went out of their way and hiked an addition several miles.
Finish line set up

Everyone loved the shower guy. He had his semi all ready to go every day when the runners came in and kept it very clean, which everyone really appreciated! This man could feel the love!

down the finish chute

Here he comes!

After a long day of hiking/running!

David has arrived!

And in good spirits! Can you imagine hiking/running up a mountain for nearly 7 hours!?! Me neither!

David and Deb

Deb won overall for the women for the 3 day TransRockies Run3!!!! She had a 5 minute lead on her second place competitor so the gal tried to stay ahead of her. Deb caught up with her and the gal was so relieved that she didn't have to worry all day that she had the lead she needed. They ended up running the last 10 miles or so in together and crossed the finish line together. Then the 2nd place finisher left to attend her 6 year olds birthday party. But it was neat the camaraderie that way.

These are the super duper fast Run3 overall winners in both the men and women's! Congratulations!

Stage 2 Vicksburg to Twin Lakes Dam

The second morning I didn't have a check point because it was a shorter day, 13.4 miles, but with a climb up Hope Pass for 3,200 feet. I had tent duty. Every morning/night the tent crew put up, and took down hundreds of tents. I would NOT want that job. They were troopers about it though! I helped take down the tents but then I went into Buena Vista to try to help look for some "missing" bags which didn't turn out to be missing at all.

Ha! Ha!

Take down team at work.

Loading up

After...

then...all set up again...this time on a baseball field in Leadville , ready for the runners. Everyday the tent team would take down/set up and the runners bring their huge duffel bags to the luggage guys, who load them into several big trucks and transport them to the end of that stage, unload them all, put them in numberical order so it is easier for the runners to find and drag to their ten.

Deb was again number 1!!!! And got to continue to wear the leaders jersey! Go Deb!

We stayed at this old fashioned hotel in Leadville called the Delaware. It was really neat, had a store in it with all kind of antiques lining the halls.

I found this funny. In Leadville.

My delicious sandwich with pasta salad. YUMMMMYYYYYY!

Stage 1 - Buena Vista to Rainroad Bridge

Stage 1 was 20.8 miles, Climbing 2,500 feet, Checkpoint 1 (ME!) was 7.3 miles in.
David and Deb before the first day. I had no idea we were in the midst of a star :-)

One of the rental trucks all loaded up. I tell ya, as much driving in the middle of no where we did, I was sure appreciative of satellite radio!

Finally! We found where check point 1 is. Working checkpoint1 were the massage therapists and myself. Cindy, Dana and Sherry. We had 2 trucks for the check point.

Sherry unloading

We had oranges, bananas, watermelon, Gu, Chomps, Salt stick (a sponsor) Erin Bakers cookies, M & M's, Swedish Fish, Twizzlers, chips, pretzels, water and Gu Brew, the electrolye drink. We were set up.

We get back and holy cow! Our friend Deb was numero uno for day 1!?! What? Rockstar!!!!

dinner and waiting for the awards ceremony and picture/slide show they did every night of that stage.

They also crowned a king and queen of each stage and this year, Deb was chosen on Stage 1. It was her birthday too! AND she came in first place in her age division! Her story...well....she did the TRR last year, and several weeks later, while she was running in Moab, she got a call from her husband. Their house, one they had built off the grid, with all kinds of cool stuff, had burned to the ground. They lost most of their belongings. They picked themselves up, dusted off and continued on. Amazing. She deserved to be queen for the day :-)

These are the crazy fast women team winners at Stage 1. We have seen the one with curly red short hair (the leader) in a North Face ad (her sponsor) her name is Nicki Kimball, and the gal next to her in the pumps, is Michelle Bardon and she is a famous runner as well.

The ladies winners at the end of stage 1. Deb with the leaders jersey!

First night in Buena Vista

While everyone else slept in tents, David got us a hotel room in Buena Vista. A cushy Super 8. We were here for 2 nights. The first night, David's friend Deb Davies stayed with us.

Got back to the hotel and checked out my swag. Awesome! I love these shoes and the boys have adopted my jacket and I am happy to have an additional hand held water bottle. Yayyy!

checking in.....for TRR 2011

So...I didn't know anyone but people were reallyl nice. To my left is my new friend Kelly, a massage therapist, and to my right is Dana, another massage therapist talking to Memphis Joe who is well known for his margarita's he serves out of his luggage truck on the 3rd day! People look forward to it for days!

Chatting with Carl at check in

Drove the last portion of the course for Day 1. Beautiful. The clouds look fake in the sky, David got tired of me saying that, but they look so much different than our clouds. Beautiful fake looking puffs in a beautiful vibrant blue sky. So...the mocking ensued. :-)

Everyone gathered for the pre run dinner.

You know when...

you stay up far too late gabbing and then just plain silly...only to wake up at o'dark thirty before heading out to the Trans Rockies to do it again???? Here is poor Damon, who is trying to sleep for his second day of school....and we made him take self portraits with us knowing it would be too early in the morning to do it. I think he didn't mind at all...
